Re: A couple of rare MEN'S Keds print ads

Since when were those ever made in men's sizes?

When Keds took over in the 80's and 90's, they took over big. They made men's sizes then. They didn't even do that in the 50's and 60's when they were the ONLY sneaker worn by women and girls. (They made basketball-type shoes for men and boys then).

The 1980's saw a swing back from the wild-and-crazy late 60's to mid 70's (great time for music not too good for Keds). Then came Disco and polyester leisure suits (a testimony to the fact that evolution can sometimes work in reverse) and finally a swing towards conservativism.

There was an era of fashion known as "Preppy" in which men wore shirts, sweaters, slacks and Keds were as appropriate as the penny loafer as footwear for men.

Unfortunately this was eventually overtaken by grunge and klunk (Remember those big, bulky, funny looking sneakers that girls used to wear then, they looked something like clown shoes?)

They made men's champs up until 1993 I believe and Mule sorry they did have that style in the 50's and 60's (perhaps even earlier) for men as well.
