In the neighborhood I grew up in, the girls had elaborate ways of lacing up their Keds. It was sort of a code, and each way meant something to the girls, but they'd never tell us boys what they were giggling about.

Mule ,you are like most of us older freaks, We remember an era as you say
keds were the only sneaker the girls had and they unknowingly teased us
by drawing on them or having their girlfriends sign them and yes changing
the laces color and tying methods. Now with keds being considered old granny shoes you have to be patient and every once in a while see a mature lady that you can tell wears keds as if she was still young.
And to my liking they are clean well shaped and tied staight with a bow.
