Volleys in Australia make an ugg boot using their plimsoll's sole/toecap unit. I was lucky enough to find a pair a while back. They have the lovely non-slip herringbone sole I love so much. The other day my partner was looking at them longingly - I wish I had got a pair for her too!

You could wear them sockless, but I prefer socks. Some months ago I my partner and I went to a nearby friend's place. It was snowing and the footpaths were icy (very unusual where we are). She was wearing smooth soled shoes and was slipping all over the place - I had to help her along. The flexible herringbone soles of these uggs gripped the ice nicely and they did not slip!
