Adult rated Converse Has Converse changed the production?

The rubber smell of girl's canvas sneakers is the most important fact for me. So I could always rely on to make my move when I sniffed Chucks of girls. Yesterday I bought those green Chucks from a girl and was disappointed for the first time. Those darker (almost black) rubber soles are not that smelly as those classic brown ones of that blue older pair. Seems like even Converse has now changed to a cheaper production like all those other canvas and rubber sneaker brands over the years. Pure rubber seems to be too expensive nowadays. I miss the old times.

not only the smell

It's not only the smell, also the quality is less. Last year I bought 2 pairs of XHi's and already the gleu between the sole and the canvas is getting lose. A pair of Neehigh's of '89 does not have the problem yet, and I am wearing them still a copple of times a month! Maybe because the new AllStars are made in Vietnam?
