I'd say yes, it is modern art, however, not really high or fine art, more in the area of craft or design/decoration. As Greenberg would say, it's not modern art since is isn't about paint on a canvas, moreso it does come close to expressionism in the sense that it is a vehicle for personal expression. Of course since it's mass produced and functional, I'd say more in the realm of modern fashion design. Now Scotty's paintings, that's mighty fine art.
