Does anyone know what kind of shoes these are? They look like high top keds. Did these type of shoes exist in the 1920s or 30s? Although Clara Bow was considered a tomboy, it was very unusual for women to wear sneakers back then even in a casual setting.

Re: Silent Screen Star Clara Bow

plimsolls before sneakers were worn by the British navy years before this ............................. same bloke that gave us plimsoll line on ships and drinking glasses gave us rubber and canvas shoes ~ plimsolls

the Striderite company { that gave us KEDS } started in 1917 ................ and Converse made Basketball BOOTS at the start as that was the style of shoe worn at the time BOOTS most people could not afford low cut SHOES and they were few and far between so they were expensive so naturally when sneakers were first made they were made in a boot style hence the term GYM BOOTS.............. also she is on a boat and these type of shoes `PLIMSOLLS` were made for this purpose ........................ I hope you can find more pics like this

I found these pics of keds shoes from that era. I noticed the high top and the mary jane style show have a pronounced heel.
