I spent the 80's (the last decade in which Keds were popular) in the Pacific Northwest. I recall seeing a newspaper article about a local teenage girl who made money painting artwork on the Keds of her girlfriends.

My mom used to do cartoon characters. I remember her doing "pen and ink" designs on my sister's and her friends' Keds.

Mule triggered a memory I had forgotten about. In 1989 my niece came for a visit and I had bought her a huge kit to decorate tennies.. Her mom was a cheap so and so and wouldn't buy her any shoes so I took her shopping.. We bought 2 pairs of crisp white champion style keds and had a ball decorating them with puff paint and sequins etc..

What I wouldn't give now to be able to run out and buy those Keds so easily as I did then..
