I believe this is a Scottish dance group. They modify their Keds Champs by sewing green leather on top. Seniors seem to pass their shoes down to new members as a tradition and symbol of their hard work. Google search them for more details.

I've read about them. Evidently, they pass their shoes down to younger members-sort of a rite of passage.
